Tigers top up on Talls and Tenacity

The 2013 CAFL Premiers went into the 2014 Draft with one aim according to Co-Captain Derek Smith to re-draft as many former Tigers from the previous season and to recruit more ‘Talls’ and Ball winners with tenacity in their game.

Derek says “The Tigers are very Happy with our Draft. We got our top target’s in the Main Draft and hope that Cads (Mark Cadman) pace and Bryan’s (Martin) tenacity will help fill a Gekko (Michael Douglas) shaped hole in our team.”

The Tigers were forced to release Michael Douglas from their Premiership side due to capping restrictions and some of their focus had been on securing players to fill that void.

He also said “We are over the moon to have secured Danny (Collett) back at the Tigers after a really successful first season. Fridge (Graham Wilson) is an excellent pick up, especially as Aussie Rules will be his number one sports priority this year.” Adding to the options for ruck work and height around the ground.

The Tigers have prided themselves on their team first attitude for the last few seasons with a hunt down defensive attitude that sees them pressurise the opposition when they are not in possession, “We are delighted to get Nicky (Thomson) back at the Tigers. She brings lots of chase to the team which will help us on the big Vicky Park pitch.” Derek says.

Derek had a word of caution for his Co-Captain and brother David ‘Daisy’ Smith when commenting on the other CAFL Teams Midfield depth, “I don’t envy Dave’s tagging role this year! Plenty of very decent players to go up against!”
